North Andover, MA W/F - 15 Walnut Ave - 4/19/16
North Andover firefighters were dispatched to a reported house fire in the area of 15 Walnut Ave.
On arrival, fire crews found heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor of a 1.5 story cape and a working fire was requested. Crews ran a line thru the front door and had the bulk of the heavy fire knocked down within 10 minutes of arrival.
Neighbors reported that the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, however the family's cats were still in the home. After a quick search, the pets were located but in serious condition. They were brought out onto the front lawn where several firefighters attempted resuscitation efforts on both animals. While one appeared to be non-viable, the other was slowly regaining enough strength to appear quite lively considering the circumstances when care was transferred to Animal Control.
As a pet owner myself, I left the scene extremely grateful for the work those firefighters put into saving those animals. I cringe at the thought of that happening to me and the professionalism, care, determination and effort they showed in attempting to save them should not go unnoticed.
