North Reading, MA W/F - 23 Audobon Rd - 5/21/17
North Reading firefighters, under the initial direction of Captain Marotta were dispatched to investigate smoke coming from a house at 23 Audobon Rd near Martin's Pond in the northern end of town. This home was the scene of a 2 alarm fire the day before that destroyed the 2.5 story wood frame house. The Captain had smoke showing on arrival and requested the box with a response of Engine 2 and Ladder 1. The home having been severely damaged by fire had a few pockets of fire with difficult access due to the instability of the structure. Crews ran a single line over Ladder 1's aerial and flowed foam into the home to knock the fire down. It took firefighters nearly 2 hours to extinguish the fire. As of that night, the town was in the process of planning the teardown of the property. Wilmington Engine 3 covered North Reading's only firehouse while NRFD crews were tied up.
