North Andover, MA 4th Alarm - 200 Holt Rd - 8/20/19
North Andover, MA 4th Alarm
200 Holt Rd at Thompson Brothers Industries August 20th 2019
NAFD Engine 1 sent on a still box for a "low air" alarm activation. On arrival, they had heavy smoke and fire showing from a large metal clad building used for industrial recycling. A working fire was requested followed by requests for the 2nd and 3rd alarms as fire had begun to consume the building. Large piles of industrial recycling materials inside the building were burning from one end of the building to the other. The smoke plume produced by the fire could be seen for miles throat the area. Ultimately 4 alarms were requested along with a district HazMat response due to the possible toxicity of the smoke blanketing the area neighborhoods. Mutual aid from multiple surrounding communities in the Merrimack Valley assisted at the scene while others provided coverage. Firefighters remained on scene well into the following day(s) to wet down hot spots while heavy machinery pulled smoldering piles of debris from the building. Ultimately the building has to be torn down due to compromised structural integrity.
Even though this was a large fire, I honestly didn't take many photos at all. It was a defensive ops fire from the start with master streams via aerial ladder and blitzfire's. Then I was asked to leave the property, which I did.
