Lowell, Ma 3rd Alarm - 700 Broadway St - 11/7/22
Lowell Firefighters assisted by mutual aid manpower battled this 3 alarm fire just after 2:30pm this afternoon at 700 Broadway St. The first arriving companies found smoke showing from a large 1 & 2 story brick/wood commercial building.
After attempting an interior attack, the heavy volume of fire proved to be too dangerous prompting the evacuation of all firefighters. As crews backed out, a mayday was transmitted by Engine 7 as their line had burned and was lost. The mayday was quickly cleared with a subsequent PAR check taken where all members were accounted for.
Firefighters manned several big lines from the ground along with a line off Ladder 2 and aerial master stream off Ladder 3. Heavy first took possession of the entire structure, weakening the integrity with a complete A side wall collapse into the street. Crews took several hours to bring the fire under control.
The single firefighter hurt was treated on the scene and to my knowledge continued working. The 2 people reportedly inside the building at the time of the fire made it out unharmed. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the LFD FIU alongside State Troopers assigned to the Fire Marshals office.
