Andover, MA 2nd Alarm - 36 Morton St - 3/27/16
Andover Engine 1, clearing a medical at Phillips Academy, was sent to the area of 20 School St on a report of smoke in the area. While enroute, a secondary caller reported seeing flames coming from 36 Morton St.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing from the first floor rear of the given address and a 2nd alarm was requested by Deputy Gibson. After attempting an aggressive interior attack, firefighters were pulled from the home due to the heavy fire conditions on the 2nd floor. Multiple lines were run from all sides and Ladder 1's aerial master stream was put into use after transitioning to a defensive attack.
It took an hour or so for firefighters to knock down the heaviest fire and several more hours worth of wetting down hot spots and overhauling to bring the fire under control.
Fire crews from Lawrence and Tewksbury assisted Andover at the scene while additional units from Methuen, North Andover and Lawrence provided covrerage at Andover Fire Stations while crews battled the fire.
The home was owned by a young couple who were working to rehab the home after purchasing it in January. Nobody was in the house at the time of the fire and it appears the home was a total loss.
