Beverly, MA 2nd Alarm - 9 Highland Terrace - 5/19/16
Just after 7am on Thursday morning May 19th, Beverly Fire Alarm dispatched Engines 3, 4 and 5 with Truck 1 to a reported building fire at 9 Highland Terrace. Before companies even got out the door, Beverly Police called off with smoke and fire showing with a subsequent report of a person trapped.
Engine 3 was on scene within minutes and reported heavy fire showing with a second alarm assignment requested shortly after arrival. The fire was in a large 2.5 story wood frame dwelling with a heavy fire condition thruout the first floor extending up. I'm not even sure if firefighters were able to make much of an interior attack as they were all ordered out of the building early on due to the intense volume of fire.
Fire crews from Danvers and Hamilton were called to the scene on the second alarm and assisted Beverly firefighters bring the fire under control.
An older gentleman, who recently retired after a long career with USPS, was found deceased on the first floor. The fire is still under investigation by local authorities alongside the State Fire Marshal's office. And on a side note, the radiant heat from the fire ended up doing extensive damage to both Engine 4 and Truck 1. Both rigs were taken out of service after the fire and are awaiting repairs.
