Billerica, MA 2nd Alarm - 29 Burnham Rd. - 4/16/17
On Easter Sunday, April 16th, Billerica firefighters were dispatched to a reported house fire at 29 Burnham Rd.
Crews arrived to find smoke showing from a large 2.5 story dwelling with additions on both the "C' and "D" sides of the home. Heavy fire was observed in the rear of the home extending up and into the attic. A 2nd alarm was requested which brought in the remaining Billerica companies as well as an engine from neighboring Burlington. Firefighters attempted an aggressive interior attack with 3 lines run but the fire had gained too much headway into the attic. Once it began self venting, the OIC ordered all companies to evacuate the home thus transitioning to a defensive attack. With multiple hand lines and an aerial ladderpipe off Ladder 1 in operation, firefighters fought from the outside in until enough of the heavy fire had been darjened down to allow crews back inside the structure.
The fire was knocked down within an hour with fire crews remaining for several hours wetting down and overhauling.
