Methuen, MA 2nd Alarm - 304 Broadway - 8/16/17
Methuen firefighters battled this 2nd alarm fire on Wednesday night August 18th in a large 2.5 story multi dwelling at the corner of Broadway and High St.
The shift commander arrived shortly after the dispatch and reported heavy smoke and fire showing and requested a working fire and 2nd alarm near simultaneously. After a short attempted interior attack, he made the decision to pull all firefighters from the building and transition to an exterior attack to knock as much fire down as quickly as possible. That strategy payed off as they were able to knock down the heaviest of the fire within 10-20 minutes of arrival with crews chasing and knocking down pockets of heavy fire for the remainder of their time there.
I arrived within 10-15 minutes of the initial on scene report and the heavy fire was already mostly knocked down, so I caught mostly overall scene shots of the final phases of the exterior attack. These guys really did an incredible job not only in knocking the fire down in short order but in keeping the fire contained to the original fire building.
