Lawrence firefighters were alerted by Police, of a building fire on Chandler St on Tuesday evening March 6th with an initial response of Engines 5, 6 and 7, Ladder 5, Rescue 1 and C21 Deputy Wilson.
The Police report was for a fully involved building with the first due companies arriving to confirm heavy fire showing from an irregularly shaped 1.5 story commercial body shop/garage. The fire had also extended to cars both inside and outside the structure as well as some old tires. Companies went right into a defensive attack with big lines and an aerial master stream off ladder 5.
After an initial attack and the danger of the fire spreading to a large multi story commercial building off the C side on Bennett St. A 2nd alarm was requested bringing an additional response of Lawrence Engine 9, Methuen Engine 1, Andover Engine 1 and Lawrence Ladder 4 with the ladder being set up on the C side and going into a ladderpipe operation of their own. Firefighters dumped water for nearly an hour before the heaviest of the fire was knocked down.
Excellent job again by the Lawrence firefighters as their hard work kept the fire from extending to any of the other nearby structures.
