Lawrence, MA 4th Alarm - 35 Essex St - 2/22/21
On Monday night February 22nd 2021 Lawrence Fire Alarm sent out box 2111 for 35 Essex St, for the rectory of the Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church after multiple calls for smoke from the building. Engines 6, 7, 9, Ladder 5, Squad 1 and Deputy Meaney in C21 were dispatched.
On arrival C21 reported a working fire. With heavy fire showing from the rear and as companies started stretching lines, he requested a 2nd alarm. The structure was a 2.5 story wood frame surrounded by a 1 & 2 story brick and wood structure that was attached to a large 3-4 story equiv church. In an effort to stop the fire from extending into the main church sanctuary, an aggressive interior attack that turned exterior was made. Several big lines, aerial master streams and a deck gun were used to accomplish the effort of preventing said extension.
Ultimately 4 alarms were struck with multiple area towns providing manpower at the scene as well as covering the Central Firehouse. The fire has been deemed to have been electrical in nature and the Priest, who was the only person in the building at the time was unharmed.
