Lawrence, MA 2nd Alarm - 220 Carleton St - 9/23/21
Lawrence, MA 2nd Alarm
220 Carleton St,
Early morning Thursday September 23rd 2021
Response: Engines 6/7/8/9, Ladders 4/5, Squad 1, C21 Deputy Wilson, C20 Chief Moriarty and the FIU. Mutual Aid on scene were engines from Andover and Methuen. Coverage at Central were engines from Haverhill, N Andover and Dracut with a Lowell Ladder.
Fire was in a large 3 story occupied dwelling approx 30x60. Police received a call from the resident reporting a fire in the house and evacuated himself and all other residents. Engine 9 arrived with an active fire on floor 3, reported a working fire and recommended to C21 they go to a 2nd alarm assignment. Upon arrival, Deputy Wilson requested the 2nd alarm and after E9's report of the 2nd floor now well involved, he ordered all companies out of the building. Firefighters transitioned to a defensive posture where they'd stay for the duration of this incident. With exposures on both sides of the original fire building, firefighters ran bigs lines to protect and prevent the fire from extending. There was a small amount of fire on the peek of the roof of the D side exposure that was quickly knocked down with no further extension. Both ladders 4 and 5 lobbed large amounts of water from above while hand lines hit the fire from all sides. The fire was brought under control within an hour with fire crews remaining well into the mid to late morning hours to wet down hot spots. 2 occupants were transported to Lawrence General Hospital by LGH EMS personnel with non life threatening injuries. A cause is currently still under investigation by the Lawrence Fire FIU and State Troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal's office.
