Lawrence, MA 3rd Alarm - 30 Shawsheen Ct - 6/10/21
Lawrence, MA 3rd Alarm
30 Shawsheen Ct.
Thursday evening June 10th 2021
Response: Lawrence Engines 6/7/8/9, Ladders 4/5, Squad 1, C21 Deputy Loughlin, C20 Chief Moriarty, and the FIU. Mutual aid on scene were engines from Andover, N Andover, Methuen, Dracut, Haverhill and Middleton with a Lowell ladder. Coverage at Central were engines from Reading, N Reading, Danvers and the Salem NH tower.
Fire in a large 2.5 story attached multi dwelling approx 150x30. Engine 9 arrived to find heavy fire showing from the far side rear of the structure with fire from the ground level up to and thru the roof already. a second alarm was requested by C21 on his arrival and third alarm shortly after. Incoming Lawrence companies as well as mutual aid were tasked with establishing a water supply thru relay pumping as the property sits on a dead end with a dead end water main. The fire had advanced so rapidly before arrival up and into the common attic to the point where interior firefighting efforts would be untenable. With limited water supply, firefighters could only stretch a few lines to try knocking down the fire as best they could. Once a water supply was established, Ladders 4 & 5 went into aerial master stream operation. The fire ended up burning thru the roof of the entire complex while also burning down on most of it. Collapses of the structure occurred on both the A & C sides. It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control with additional crews remaining on scene overnight and into Friday morning to wet down what was left of the building. While there were no reported personal injuries, several pets were unfortunately lost to the blaze. A cause has yet to be determined and due to the severity of the damage, it may never be exactly determined.
