Engines 9/6/8, Ladder 4, Squad 1 and C21 dispatched to 28 Crosby St for a single 911 call for a fire in the rear of the given address. Ladder 4 arrived within seconds of the dispatch as their firehouse is located at the corner of S Broadway and Crosby Its. Lt Peek's initial report was heavy fire showing from floor 3 of a 3 story wood frame dwelling. C21, Deputy John McInnis arrived shortly after and requested a 2nd alarm followed shortly after by a 3rd alarm. His report was heavy fire thruout floor 3 of a 3 story dwelling (22-24 Crosby) with extension to both the B side (18-20 Crosby) and D side (26-28 Crosby) exposures, both 3 story dwellings. Companies ran multiple big lines in an attempt to knock down the heavy, wind swept fire that was rapidly advancing and threatening multiple additional exposures on both Crosby and Salem Sts. Crews took a defensive posture on the fire ultimately stopping the fire advancement at 14-16 Crosby, a 3 story 6 family dwelling that sustained damage to the top floor. Additional alarms and special calls for apparatus/manpower from as far away as Lynn, Salisbury and Derry NH were made. It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control with firefighters remaining on scene with a fire watch for most of Saturday.
