Midnight, Sunday March 25, 2023
Response: Lawrence Engines 6/7/8, Ladder 5, Squad 1, C21 Deputy McInnis, C20 Chief Moriarty and the FIU. No mutual aid on scene and coverage at the Central Firehouse were Lawrence Engine 9 and Ladder 4 with Andover Engine 1.
Right around midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning of March 25th, Lawrence Fire Alarm received a call for a garage fire next to 4 Champlain Ave. A full box alarm of Engines 6/7/8, Ladder 5, Squad 1 and C21 Deputy McInnis were dispatched.
On arrival firefighters had fire showing from a large 1.5sty 8 stall garage approximately 80x20. A working fire was requested and crews began stretching lines for fire attack and water supply. Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire and had the heaviest of the fire darkened down within 15min. The real grunt work of opening up the garage walls, ceilings and roof to check for extension and overhaul would go on for an additional hour thereafter.
It would appear as though the fire may have started in a car parked inside the structure but an official cause is still under investigation by the Lawrence Fire FIU.
A simultaneous call for a house fire on Butler St was handled by Andover Engine 1, Lawrence Engine 9 and Lawrence Ladder 4. That turned out to be local alarms activated by the smoke from the Champlain Ave fire.
