Lawrence 2nd Alarm - 12 Diamond St - 7/16/14
Afetr a busy afternoon of firefighting, things did not slow down for the Lawrence Firefighters of group 1.
While some companies were tied up at an alarm activation at Multigrains off Water St, Fire Alarm advised Car 21, Deputy Murphy, of a single cell phone call reporting a building fire at 12 Diamond St, Hampton on Beacon Apartments. Engines 6 and 9, with Ladder 4 were initially sent to the alarm, with Engine 7 and Rescue 1 added by the Deputy once he cleared them from Multigrains.
Engine 9 arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the 3rd floor of a 3 story apartment building. Companies immediately ran lines to floor 3 and made entry to the fire apartment.
Shortly after his arrival, C21 requested a 2nd alarm assignment be sent to the fire. This brought Engines 5 and 7 as well as Ladder 5 to the fire. Already tired companies made an aggressive interior attack and knocked down the heavy fire within 20 minutes of the first call.
Firefighters remained on scene for a time after knock down to open up walls and ceilings, checking for hot spots and overhauling. Thankfully, once companies returned to quarters, they had a relatively slow rest of the night after battling 3 2 alarm fires in only a matter of a few hours.
Ive said it before and Ill say it again. This group of men, as do all the men and women of LFD, worked EXTREMELY hard to protect the citizens of their community. They make it happen with little help and support of those running the city on a daily basis and should be recognized for their efforts. Im only one person but am very proud to support them in even the smallest of ways.
