Lawrence, MA 2nd Alarm - 116-118 Easton St - 7/10/14
A single phone call was recieved by Lawrence Fire Alarm reporting a fire in the vacinity of either Easton or Farley Sts near South Broadway. Box 7111 was sent out and Engines 5, 9 Ladder 4 and Car 21 were initially dispatched. The rescue was temporarily out of service from the earlier Jaws of Life demonstration they had just finished at LFD HQ.
En route, Deputy Murphy in Car 21 requested an additional engine, Engine 6 and the rescue to quickly get back in service and respond. Ladder 4 arrived first on scene and reported a working fire. Companies encountered a heavy fire condition on the B side exterior porch which had begun to extend into the attic of a large 2.5 story wood frame house. Deputy Murphy quickly ordered a 2nd alarm to be struck which brought in Engine 7 and Ladder 5 along with a pump from Methuen Fire.
The fire was knocked down quickly after an aggressive attack by Lawrence firefighters. Companies remained on scene to overhaul for a time to assure the fire was out.
Mutual aid companies were brought in to cover the city while firefighters were tied up.
