Lawrence, MA 2nd Alarm - 207 Marston St - 7/20/15
Just before 23:30, Lawrence Fire Alarm began recieving calls for a building fire at the former Tombarello's salvage yard located at 207 Marston St. Box 2111 was subsequently transmitted with a fire response of Engines 5, 6, 7, Ladder 5, Rescue 1 and Car 21 Deputy Kennedy.
Engine 6 arrived to find a 1 story brick commercial building fully involved in fire behind a fenced in abandoned property. It took a few minutes to gain access and once inside, firefighters went right into a defensive posture on the fire.
Deputy Kennedy, needing an additional aerial ladder at the scene, special called Ladder 4 to the fire and shortly after, the balance of the 2nd alarm assignment which brought Engine 9 in.
Ladders 4 and 5 along with Engine 6 used their aerial master streams and deck gun respectively as well as several hand lines run to knock the heavy fire down. Units remained on scene for a good portion of the next day to wet down hot spots after bringing in heavy machinery to assist.
Fire companies from several neighboring communities covered Lawrence Central Firehouse on Lowell St while LFD units were tied up.
On a side note, this is not the first suspicious fire on this property. Last November 10th, firefighters battled a 2 alarm fire in a 2.5 story abandoned home across the lot from last nights fire. The site has long been abandoned as you can see from the heavy brush in the photos. Another GREAT job by the members of LFD.
