Lawrence, MA 2nd Alarm - 55 Cambridge St - 7/16/14
Mid afternoon, while several Lawrence Fire companies were at the scene of a 2nd Alarm fire on Andover St, Lawrence Fire Alarm recieved multiple calls for a house fire at 55 Cambridge St. With those units ties up, a completely mutual aid initial response of Andover Engine 1, North Andover Engine 1 and Lowell Ladder 1 were dispatched along with covering Deputy McInnis in Car 22.
Companies arrived to find heavy smoke pushing from the second floor windows on the A and D sides of the home. An initial attack line was immediately run to the fire floor to begin to knock the fire down.
Needing extra manpower to the scene, a request by the Deputy for Ladder 5 and eventually the filling of the 2nd alarm assignment was asked for. After an aggressive interior attck, crews were able to knock the fire down, keeping it to 1 room on the 2nd floor. Companies remained on scene for an extended period of time to overhaul, check for hot spots.
Several firefighters were injured, including the crew from Ladder 5 who were pulling a ceiling on the fire floor when it came crashing down on them. They were all treated on scene and returned to work with the exception of one who was transported to the hospital for further evaluation on an apparent shoulder injury. He was treated and released.
On a personal note, I spend a lot of time interatcting with the members of this group working in particular. I can honestly say its a priviledge to photograph these guys. I sincerely hope that those injured heal quickly and can get back to doing what they do best.
