Lawrence, MA 2nd Alarm - IAO 575 Common St near Broadway - 7/13/15
A Lawrence Police traffic enforcement car patrolling in the area noticed smoke coming from a vacant and boarded up 4 story rooming house on Common St near the intersection of Broadway.
After notifying Lawrence Fire, box 5111 was transmitted with an initial response of Engines 5 and 6, Ladder 5, Rescue 1 and Car 21, Deputy Murphy. After learning of the PD report, a 3rd pump, Engine 7, was added to the response.
Deputy Murphy arrived on scene reporting smoke showing and the crew of Engine 5 geared up and entered the building for fire attack. The deputy requested an additional ladder truck, Ladder 4, to the fire and shortly after, a second alarm was requested bringing Engine 9 to the fire.
After an aggressive interior attack, the fire was knocked down holding it to what turned out to be a single room fire. A Methuen engine was requested from coverage to the fire to assist Lawrence companies with chasing hot spots and overhauling.
Overall, fire companies were on scene for about 2 hours and coverage from neighboring cities/towns was provided while Lawrence firefighters were tied up.
