Lawrence, MA 3rd Alarm - 37-39 Oregon Ave - 6/27/16
Lawrence firefighters responded to a reported house fire in the area of 39 Oregon Ave. Upon arrival, Deputy Chief Jack Meaney immediately struck a second alarm and reported heavy fire showing from floors 1 and 2 of a large 2.5 story wood frame home. Engine 5 stretched an initial attack line into floor 1 and encountered heavy, overlapping fire thruout the first floor that has extended up. Multiple additional lines were stretched in an attempt to knock the heavy fire down. With the fire extending into the 3rd floor area, a third alarm plus an additional engine company were requested by Chief Moriarty. Companies were forced out of the building due to the heavy fire condition and a ladder pipe from Ladder 5 was placed into operation to knock the fire down. Firefighters spent several hours on scene overhauling and wetting down hot spots. Several pets were rescued from the blaze and were well cared for by the members of Lawrence General EMS. Crews from Andover, North Andover, Methuen, Lowell, Dracut, Middleton and Haverhill assisted Lawrence firefighters on the scene.
