Lawrence, MA ACW - 412-414 High St - 6/18/15
For the second day in a row, Lawrence Fire Alarm sent out a box for a reported house fire in the Prospect Hill neighborhood. Box 2111 was sent for 414 High St after a 911 call was placed for smoke in the stairwell. Engines 6 and 5, Ladder 5, Rescue 1 and Car 21, Acting Deputy Captain Eric Zahn were initially dispatched to the scene. A third engine, Engine 7 was added to the box after learning of the report of smoke.
Engine 6 arrived first due and reported nothing showing from a large 2.5 story dwelling. After a quick investigation, it was determined that there was an active fire above the 3rd floor in the attic area and a line was requested. Captain Zahn quickly requested an additional Ladder Company to the fire, Lawrence Ladder 4. He directed them to set up their aerial ladder at the A/B corner of the building on the corner of High and Boehm Sts.
Firefighters stretched 2 lines, one up the front door to floor 3 and one up the rear door to floor 3 where the fire was knocked down in relatively short order. Firefighters remained on scene to open up walls and ceilings during overhaul to assure the fire was fully extinguished.
Mutual aid was called in to the city to cover Lawrence Central Firehouse while companies were tied up at the scene.
It was determined that the fire may have started as a result of old wiring.
I again arrived after the bulk of the fire was knocked down. But again, being a nice sunny day, I was able to get a lot of good overhaul and face shots. Another great job done by LFD in saving this house from what could have been a much more damaging fire.
