Lawrence, MA All Hands Brush - Inside Rt495 SB loop ramp to Rt114 - 4/18/17

Lawrence Engines 6 and 9 with Ladder 4 were dispatched to a reported brush fire along Interstate 495 near exit 42 on Tuesday afternoon, April 18th. Heavy smoke could be seen for miles as comapnies arrived to find a good size fire on the inside portion of the loop ramp exiting Rt495 southbound to Rt 114/Winthrop Ave in Lawrence. With difficult access up brush covered hills and rocky ledges, the fire was able to gain a little headway before firefighters were able to stretch enough line to reach and extiguish the fire. Thankfully they were able to do so without having to secure a hydrant line for water supply as there werent any hydrants in the immediate area to do so. An engine from Andover as well as their forestry unit assisted on scene as they had been notified of the fire by the Mass State Police and were already on the road to that area.
