Lawrence, MA W/F - 173-175 Bailey St - 1/9/16
After receiving multiple phone calls reporting a house fire, Lawrence Fire Alarm sent out box 6111 for the address of 173 Bailey St. An initial response of Engines 5, 6, 9, Ladder 4, Rescue 1 and Car 21 Deputy Chief John McInnis were dispatched. It was also reported that there may be people trapped on floor 3.
Being 2 houses down from Engine 9s recently reopened firehouse (closed a number of years ago due to budget cuts), 9s arrived shortly thereafter and reported a working fire. C21 requested ladder 5 be added to the response on the working fire request due to the reports of occupants trapped.
An aggressive interior attack was made on the fire which originated on floor 1. After a primary search, it was determined that nobody was trapped on the upper floors and all occupants were accounted for. Within 15 minutes the fire was brought under control with companies remaining on scene for an additional hour to pull ceilings and overhaul. The fire was contained to 1 room on the first floor with no extension to upper floors.
Coverage for the city was brought in from Methuen and Andover, both with engine companies and a cover ladder was provided by Lowell.
** I arrived within 8-10 minutes of the alarm as I left my house as soon as the broadcast went out. I saw only smoke due to the immediate aggressive attack. So all my photos were of the overhaul stage. But once again, GREAT stop by Lawrence Firefighters in keeping the damage to a minimum. Glad to also see a reopened firehouse make an immediate difference **
